Ashwood barn is our rented cottage in the beautiful village of Wrightington, in Lancashire. We’re very easily reached, being only 5 minutes from junction 27 M6. Ashwood Barn is actually an old cow shed, which was converted in 2013 to a beautiful 3 bedroom cottage with original oak beam features. There are 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs, with one being en-suite.
Downstairs is an open plan traditional kitchen, dining area and living room with log burner. The cottage is a friendly and quiet family retreat, dogs are welcome so long as they’re well behaved and kept on a lead near the ponies and other animals.
There’s plenty to do in the local area if you are active and we are situated in a rural location. There’s cycle routes, walking routes, trail running and open water swimming, all on the doorstep. There’s also a gym in the barn if you’re keen to do some exercise whilst staying! The White Lion pub is incredibly popular and it’s within walking distance from the house and there’s a great selection of small, local shops.
It is a quiet area with lots of animals and it’s also our home. So we’re not well suited to loud music, stag or hen parties. If however, you’re looking for a quiet retreat or family stay, then please do get in touch.
If your children like animals, then they’ll love Ashwood Barn. There’s 4 ponies right next door who they can visit. There’s chickens in the garden and in the woods and they can collect eggs for breakfast. There’s 2 Pygmy goats (Buzz and Woody) living in the garden (if they haven’t escaped yet again) who love attention from kids. There’s also our small flock of Herdwick Sheep.
Are you an equestrian? For an additional fee we have a spare stable for guests so you can bring your pony, there’s great riding available locally and also at the cottage.
